Tablet takeover

I'm going to make a little prediction.
I believe that tablets (most likely iPad), will continue to grow, and then even accelerate it's growth within the next couple years.

Yes, I realize that smart phones such as iPhone and Androids have taken over the market for a personal "everything" device.  They play games, take pictures, record video, keep track of time and dates, connect you socially, and about a few dozen other things.  I know that iPads, although popular- are not nearly as popular as smart phones because of a smaller functionality set and the fact that they are just not as portable, it won't fit into your pocket  (unless you have really big pockets).  However, after seeing this ad, it really got me to thinking.

The advertisement says it's not just a new app- it's an "owners manual" for the Hyundai Equus.

Now I'm impressed.  They literally replaced the traditional car owners manual with a tablet, (an Ipad in fact).  It won't be before long that other car manufacturers follow suit.  I'm actually a little suprised that Volkswagen wasn't the first to do this, since they are very pro-apple and was the first to build ipod input connectors directly into their vehicles.

If the other car manufacturers follow suit, and combined with their already increasing popularity and saturation in the market,  I can see other businesses finding unique ways to incorporate using tablets.  Perhaps employers will just have an app, directly given by human resources, for people to download, or colleges requiring an iPad to read their ibooks from.  These are things off the top of my head but spend just a little time to think of the coming landslide where this will take us and well... you get the idea.

Of course i don't think tablets will "replace" a smart phone, and there are several kinks to work out, like which tablet will come out on top?  But i think every respectable digital citizen will own one, as it will "compliment" their primary device.  In short, they will own both.

  1. Found this interesting article here: http://allthingsd.com/20110620/consumers-dont-want-tablets-they-want-ipads/
    Which further solidifies my theory.
